East meets West in this eclectic bistro that espouses Asian soul and comfort food. Zen features a variety of Japanese, Vietnamese, Thai, Indian, Malaysian and Chinese flavors, many mixed into creations cleverly labeled, "Zen Sum" appetizers and "Taste of Asia" entrees. Zen Sum favorites include: sashimi tuna rice tower and the Zen Sum "misto" (a combination of shrimp tempura, chicken satay, avocado, lettuce, mint and rice paper). For dinner, their wok-tossed shrimp and calamari, teriyaki seabass in a clay pot and pad thai are ones to meditate on. Owners Ryu Hamada and Elaine Johnston have not only found their true selves, they've also opened a new location in Sherman Oaks.
